Everybody loves a great BBQ and that’s where Char-Broil BBQ Grills shine. Steaks on the Grill, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, the list goes on and on. A great memory I cherish to this day is my dad firing up his grill. This happened at least every other Sunday (winter excluded).
I don’t know how he did it, but he had the knack when it came to pork. Each slice would pull apart in long tender strips so full of juice that I couldn’t wait to take that first bite. When he would take it off the Grill, the meat was so tender it nearly pulled itself apart. Fond memories.
My dad always kept the bags of charcoal and the starter fluid in the shed, and it was my job to fetch them and have them by the grill for when he was ready to cook. Back then gas grills were less popular. He always insisted the charcoal gave the meat a better flavor. I can’t really disagree.
When I became an adult, I didn’t grill nearly that often. I might grill once a month or so, but I hadn’t retired yet, so I had much less free time.
Once I retired it became a much different story. Grilling nearly every day became common. Having a charcoal grill wasn’t practical anymore so I decided to start using gas grills. I’ve been using Char-Broil BBQ grills ever since so I decided to write this review about my experiences with Char-Broil BBQ Grills.

Char-Broil BBQ Grills: Benefits
- Convenience- A gas grill starts immediately. There is no waiting period for the coals to char.
- Cost- The bottle of propane is considerably cheaper than charcoal and lasts much longer.
- Clean up- No ashes to dispose of and if you use aluminum foil, grease drips are no longer a problem. Not to mention there is no clean up in the kitchen. At least for the meats. You still need your potato salad and baked beans.
- Safety- Should there be an emergency you can simply turn the gas off. Not quite so easy with red-hot embers.
Taste VS. Convenience
I debated with myself for a long time on this one. I can’t honestly say that there isn’t a difference in the taste. Probably because my childhood memories were of charcoal grills. I do prefer the taste of charcoal grilling but what I discovered was the taste difference wasn’t enough to outweigh the convenience of the gas grill.
Char-Broil BBQ Grills: Assembly Time
Char-Broil BBQ Grills Assembly Time: Less than an hour.
Char-Broil has been around since 1948 and has built a solid reputation for reliable, safe, and reasonably priced grills. They clearly know what they’re doing and have become a household name in grilling. The grills are sturdy and easy to assemble. My latest Char-Broil Grill took less than an hour to assemble.
They come with a wide range of cooking surfaces, warmers, and smokers. I particularly like the shelf space and the mount for the propane tank. It fits inside a specially designed notch to hold the bottom and a flexible mounting bracket to secure the top. This allows the propane to move with the grill, instead of sitting beside it. The temperature gauge on the front is an awesome additional feature that allows you to monitor the inside cooking temperature.
How Do Char-Broil BBQ Grills Hold Up?
I’m glad you asked! This will probably be the only section of this review that isn’t all rainbows and candy canes.
I was a little disappointed when the inside parts only lasted 2 years. I kind of expected a little more shelf life. In all fairness though, the inside mechanisms are exposed to very high temperatures so maybe 2 years was somewhat more realistic than I first gave credit to. Let alone the fact that I live in a very humid, salt filled climate which could have expedited the wear and tear.
The good news is I was able to completely rebuild the inside for $35 and it only took about 5 minutes. The parts all came together in the same package which was very convenient.
Char-Broil BBQ Grills: Overall Opinion
I’m extremely pleased with all the grills (past and present) from Char-Broil. I’d mentioned earlier that I had to replace the inside parts after 2 years, but I didn’t mention that the structure on the outside has held up perfectly. It actually still looks brand new and is as stable as the day it arrived. It’s easy to move because it has wheels and starting the grill is a breeze because it comes with an ignitor.
Keep in mind, I’m referring to the grill I currently have. Each model will come with its own set of features
